Hey guys! I know, I know, I’ve been MIA for a while and a new post is long overdue. So I thought I’d write a quick post about a pretty cool product I have been trying and seem to have gotten some pretty good results from.
So without further ado, below is my Blonyx review!

With that out of the way…
So I was doing my thing over on Twitter a few months ago and I ran into this crazy guy named Rowan. He directed me to his website and asked me if I wanted to give his newest product a try. After doing a little bit of research (Okay, a lot of research…) I decided, “Sure, why not!” I’ve used creatine products in the past and know that I do well on them. By that I mean I recover from workouts faster and I generally feel better (less sore), quicker. I also don’t bloat up like a lot of people do. So I was already half sold on this stuff, I just needed to figure out what this HMB thing was. From the Blonyx website:
HMB (or β-Hydroxy β-methylbutyrate) is a byproduct of the breakdown of the amino acid Leucine that we get from dietary protein. It is also found in healthy foods such as grapefruit, alfalfa and catfish.
HMB is vital to normal body function as it is used to maintain the health of muscle cells. Supplementing the diet with additional HMB has been shown to improve exercise performance by supporting muscle cell repair and adaptation.
Now this wasn’t the first time I’ve heard about HMB but I’m like most of you out there in the CrossFit world. I don’t take a bunch of supplements and I act like I never did curls in the gym standing in front of a mirror in my pre-CrossFit days (seriously, I didn’t! Can’t prove it!) So anyway, I read some articles, did some research and determined it would be worth trying to see what happens. As most of you who know me may know, I like to experiment on myself…
A couple of weeks later (crazy Canadian mail!) I had a container of the Blonyx HMB+ Creatine in my hands and I was ready to rock and roll. So following the directions on the container I mixed this stuff right into my post workout drink and down it went. Pretty uneventful, eh? Just so you know and can learn from my mistakes I also tried taking this with just water. Not recommended. So on this went for the 30 days worth of product I had. Sorry, the process of trying a new supplement is just not that exciting!
So overall I was pretty happy with the product. I knew going into this thing that I did well on creatine so I figured I would do even better with this high quality HMB coursing through my veins! Turns out the marketing material on their website is actually pretty right on. I didn’t notice much of anything for the first couple of weeks (as I was warned by Rowan), but come week three my recovery was noticeably better. I measured this based on how I felt and how willing I went into the next WOD (very sciencey huh?). I had more energy and less soreness relative to not taking any supplement at all at the three hour mark post WOD as well as the next couple of days. The normal soreness after a high-rep beat down just wasn’t there. At this time I was programming my own Metcons and was following the CrossFit Endurance Single Sport template for my runs so my training load was relatively high.
