PJ is a no-nonsense and yet deeply empathetic coach that manages to bring out the best in any athlete but seeing through the symptoms and addressing root causes. He has absolutely changed my entire athletic trajectory through his insightful and diligent coaching on technique, movement, mechanics and mobility. His commitment to fundamentals is impressive and the results are phenomenal!
I met PJ at a CFE certification seminar, and over the past year he has helped me reach a level of performance and health I have never been at before. Being in the military special operations community, and training for the elite of the elite, he helped me mentally prepare and strengthen my body to meet the rigorous challenges with ease. PJ is extremely knowledgeable in all arenas of fitness, health, and mobility, and developed a training plan to improve all areas of health and fitness. He ensured he was available on a day to day basis, and constantly adjusted my program depending on how my body was responding in order to constantly reach new levels of performance and strength. Having been in the military himself, PJ understand the unique environment we operate in, and how being in optimum health and physical shape means a great deal more than possibly winning a race.
Athletes need more than just programming. They need a coach that can evaluate their strengths and weaknesses and develop a process that enables an athlete to excel. A year after beginning my training with Pj my athletic performance in the sport of fitness is truly night and day from where I started. I increased my deadlift by over 100#, increased my OHS & my Clean and Jerk by 50#.
It's more than the numbers though. PJ has helped me to improve my mental toughness as well. I could not say enough great things about his coaching, motivation, accessibility and encouragement. I feel blessed to have Pj as a coach and know that each athlete he works with he is giving them an edge in their sport.
I have know Pj Newton for about 5 years, when I met him he was interning as a Crossfit Level 1 coach at Crossfit by Overload in Murrieta. Pj has coached me in regular CF classes, mobility classes and as a CFE coach at a certification course. Under Pj's coaching I set a snatch PR when I had been stuck at the same weight for over a year, his cues were simple, precise and abundantly helpful and gave me exactly what I needed to set the PR.
As an Endurance coach I saw Pj, over the course of a weekend take a large group of people from flawed running technique to adept skilled runners. It was quite amazing, every single person in the class improved their technique with the instruction he provided. It is a testament to the CFE program and Pj's skilled instruction.
The thing I appreciate most about Pj's coaching is his ability to get to the core of what needs to be fixed in the athlete's movement and then give effective simple cues tailored to the athlete. He also seeks to improve his coaching education and has evolved from CF intern to a skilled, knowledgeable coach who's advice I still seek out.
I have known PJ for about three years now and when I first met him, I had no clue how bad my movements were. He was one of the first coaches in my life to really stress the importance of mobility and making sure your fundamental movement patterns are correct. He has an excellent eye for detail but what I love most about him is he keeps his athletes/clients accountable so that they have the opportunity to really thrive. He will tell you like it is, but afterwards he will take the time necessary to help you become the best version of yourself. His experience working with CrossFit HQ and the endurance certifications only serves to bolster his resume as well. Awesome coach and stand-up guy; I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to tap into him as a resource in my athletic journey.
